We provide in office massage therapy on Sunday afternoons, and house calls though out the week.  Your massage with Lotus Temple will be tailored to meet your needs and may incorporate elements of many different modalities. You can expect a thorough intake to be performed before your first session.
Our signature massage usually begins with elements of myofascial release, to soften the connective tissue and prepare it for deeper work, followed by trigger point therapy to help the muscles begin moving towards healthy alignment. As needed, we incorporate lymphatic drainage techniques, and assisted stretching and manipulation to improve range of motion throughout the body. All of this is informed by an understanding of the principles and techniques of Chinese energetic medicine, respect for the energetic and nervous harmony of the client, and most importantly, the comfort of the client on the table. This is your hour, and we are listening to you to give you exactly what you need from it!
The use of herbal liniments, infused oils, plasters, and poulstices can significantly speed the healing process and reduce pain almost immediately. We have a wide variety of these therapies on hand and the knowledge to treat your particular condition using this sort of therapy. Many of these therapies contains strong herbs such as capsaicin, camphor, menthol, frankincense, myrrh or turpentine and their effects can be felt immediately upon application.
Clients usually disrobe and are draped by sheets the entire session, but if you feel more comfortable remaining fully clothed that’s just fine as well. The pressure and depth of massage will be adjusted to your preferences.

What type of massage is for me?
We make it easy for you, we only offer two categories of service at Lotus Temple Massage. We offer a general wellness massage for overall pain and stress relief, and a therapeutic deeper tissue massage for specific injuries and more serious pain management cases. What is particularly interesting about this article is not that it proves that massage has physiological effects, anyone who’s had a massage knows that, but that the researchers took the time to distinguish between two different massage modalities and proved that in fact, different styles of massage have different results. It’s also encouraging to see how very effective light touch massage can be. While we tend towards more pressure where needed, the philosophy that if it doesn’t hurt it’s not working is not always accurate. This research clearly shows that massage is just good for you, period.

Swedish Massage: Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking.

Deep Tissue: Deep Tissue massage is focused on physical manipulation of the muscles to release muscle tension, aid in blood flow, release connective tissue adhesions and promote healing.

Tui Na: Tui Na is literally translated as pushing and grasping. It is a traditional form of massage incorporating Qi Gong with physical treatments for muscular and joint dysfunctions.

Sports Massage: Specifically geared towards the needs of athletes to improve performance, speed recovery time, prevent injury and promote flexibility.

Lymphatic Massage: A flowing technique to relieve pressure from fluid build up and support the immune system. This style of massage is very effective for treating edema post surgery, and is often useful for diabetic edema as well.

Prenatal Massage: Prenatal massage is preformed in a side lying position, with pillows for comfort, and can significantly ease aches and pains caused by the rapid changes brought on by pregnancy, reduce anxiety, and improve labor outcomes and even newborn health.
